xx Copying and Pasting Tracks
« Thread started on: Apr 12th, 2006, 9:36pm »

It's been a while since I threw up a video. So here's a new one.  :coffee:

This is the video I shot the other day. I finally got my computer to capture the footage. I did this video differently from the others. This one I just aimed my lousy video camera (piece of crap!  :bc: ) right at the computer screen above my midi station. Something is wrong with the mic on my camcorder so you will notice the poor sound quality, but I think I edited it enough to where you can understand what's going on.

This video is on copying and pasting tracks in VS Pro.

Copying and Pasting Tracks - approx 30 megs

Enjoy! grin

I just tried it too and I got the same message, so I followed the directions on the page that said to press the refresh button.

After I pressed the refresh button, it came up with some kind of MegaUpload page talking about the site features, then in the upper right hand corner it said something like "Click here to continue to MegaUpload."

When I clicked that, it went to my file. Weird, I tell ya... just weird. That's the thing about free services sometimes, they always look for ways to get you to view annoying ads or spam.

Anyway, now that I was able to access it, everytime I click on the link here it goes straight to the right page now. Must be a cookie thing they installed on the site or something. Who knows?  :hs:

I watched it yesterday afternoon!

Great video, very helpful! I love the intro, especially the "Hi Guys!" part.....  :thumb:

I did hear a hum in the microphone audio, but other than that, very cool....!!  :bp:

Thanks for watching!

It's been 5 days since I posted it and not a single comment, so I was wondering if anybody had watched it.

Yeah, that hum is the fault of my stupid camcorder. You think it's bad on there now, you should have heard it before I edited it.  :mg:

I enjoyed making the first 2 minutes of the video more than anything else. grin

I think the next time I make a video, I am going to use that same method... just point a camcorder at my screen again because that way is faster and easier, but next time I will use one that doesn't have that humming audio problem.  :thumb:

Hi Funky

I finally got around to looking at the video.... and picked up a couple tips. I didn't realize that you could display two waveforms in the Audio Ediitor... good to know that.
And you reinforced something for me... that it's better to use a longer editing step like "8th note" in copying and pasting segments of audio for preciseness in keeping the pasted audio in sync with the music. That would work particularly well if the music was recorded in time with VS Pro's time signature.

Ok... ya want a brutal review of the video? I have no idea what it takes to get the video into a computer... never did it before, but the focus of the other videos is much more clear and the audio is much more pleasant. That said, I loved the opening couple minutes of your new video and as I said, I picked up a couple tips from the new video. Thank you so much for making them!  :bp:  :nw:

And it was good to see YOU in the video! I feel like I know you a bit better now! cheesy

Oh btw... I saw your Cakewalk 3.0 program in the video when you briefly switched to check where something was. I know you have been using that tried and true sequencer forever, it seems.  :tu:

Thank you again so much, Funky, for all you are doing!

Yep. This I know. I stated it in my opening post right here:

Making the video the other way takes a whole lot more work, but the quality is far superior. This video was an experiment at just throwing up a camcorder and letting it rip. grin

If you just gained one thing from the video, then it was all worth it to me. smiley

So you saw my Cakewalk Pro 3.0 running in the background? Yeah man... it syncs so perfectly with VS Pro that I have no need or desire to use the VS Pro sequencer.  :yb:

Hey listen....I downloaded it and watched it. Very informative. You put stuff in laymens terms. I have had the Vs 1880 for a while but I'm just really gettin into it. Consdering I've been using it for mixtape purposes. I have two questions. How can I get a big screen for my 1880? And What program is that, and where can I get it? My 1880 only came with a demo version of logic or something like that. I want to be like you with the Vs.

Hey there LordKaseem,

That's easy. You can get one just about anywhere. Like CompUSA, Best Buy... you know... anyplace that sells computer stuff. I bought mine off ebay. I am an ebay-aholic!  :sip:

That is the program this forum was created for. It's called VS Pro. It's the bomb dude. 100 times better than Logic, but that's why Logic is free and VS Pro is not. You should check out our FAQs section. I've got answers to many common questions in there, like what is vs pro, where can I buy it, what are the system requirements, how do you hook it up to this or that... just lots of questions that people always ask.

Check out the FAQs at the following link:

FAQs

If you still don't get your questions answered after going there, post back here or in the "Getting Started" section and I (or someone) will be glad to help you in anyway we can. smiley

I will buy the vs pro. Thanks. And what's the name of the screen. Is it just a computer monitor, and how do I hook it up. I thought that was crazy because I was under the impression that only the 2480 and above had screen you could plug in. And one more question? Can I use the vs8-f for the 1880? Thanx in advance. :tu:

Any computer monitor will work, although some members here have LCD flat panels, the most preferred being the 19" LCD flat panel display.
This would hook up to your pc, not the VS1880, and VS Pro software would install on your pc.
To use VS Pro you would have to have a midi interface to interface your 1880 to your pc with midi in and out cables. The preferred midi interface is a USB to midi interface. The USB part of the interface would connect to your pc USB port and the midi in and out would connect to your VS1880 midi ports (midi out from the midi interface to midi in on your 1880 and midi in from the midi interface to midi out on your 1880).
Confused yet? Hope not..... smiley  :thumb:

Thanx because...I figured my 1880 was missing a couple of slots. Now I also use Mpc 2000 which is the brains of my set up, as well as Reason 2.5. I guess I have some re wireing to do. I appreciate it.

I use the mpc1000. Let me tell you, once you learn how to do all this, you will see that the VS1880, VS Pro and the mpc work GREAT together.

Let me ask you this. Are you doing all your sequencing in your mpc and probably triggering sounds from Reason and now you just need the 1880 to record vocals and stuff?

With this set up, you can sync your mpc, 1880 and VS Pro altogether. The sync is perfect! Your system is my SPECIALTY. Wish I could come to your house and just hook it all up for ya... hehehe. But since I can't, you'll just have to use this forum as a resource to learn how to do it.

You asked about the vs8f card. Well, there are 2 of them. One is the vs8f-2 and the other is the vs8f-3. Your 1880 can accept both cards. I use two vs8f-2 cards. As far as using the vs8f-3 cards with VS Pro, I am not sure that VS Pro recoginizes them because the graphical interface is so complex and different from the "2" card. We have a moderator here who tried it and I believe he was unhappy with the results, but he won't be back here until after May 7th. So when he comes back, you can ask him about his experience with the "3" card.

Yeah man...that's great. Everybody is on protools, but I like the 1880. I'm using a lil external sound blaster sound card but it's only stereo,so I try to level out the reason sounds before the hit the 1880. But once I get vs pro everthing will be cool :clap2: But I didn't want to use a computer based sequencer. I love the MPC's sequencer because it's square like a drummer.
