xx Exporting Audio
« Thread started on: Apr 18th, 2009, 1:46pm »

Hello everyone....just got an update to the latest version 7.3....anyway...my experience is as bad as its always been which is why I gave up using the programme and indeed the vs1880 altogether. That said I still use it for portable recordings. My main question is connected with exporting the audio.

I have the vs1880 all hooked up, amplitudes all downloading etc etc...it is all hooked up correctly. I can do most things but for whatever reason it won't let me record into it and it won't let me export the wavs via the export wav function. It let's me name it and save and then hit ok and NOTHING happens. I have selected it before it's mentioned. I'm not sure what to expect when I hit save. Does another box come up while it exports or what? Do I have to do something else?
With regard to recording into it....I've selected the appropriate sound card channels and nothing happens on hitting record. Again, shouldn't there be a level control or something coming up? I've spent hundreds of pounds on this programme and so far I feel I've wasted my time and money. All help appreciated.

Sorry to hear you're having problems with VS Pro.

One thing I'd need to confirm to be able to offer any sensible advice is where your audio is currently? Most users of the software are leaving all their actual audio on their VS workstation, and are effectively using the VS Pro software as a front end to this for editing, mixing and so on.

If you can give some more details about how you're using your system, and where the audio is recorded to / exported to, I'm sure somebody here can help.

Hi
Thanks for the reply...you are right, I'm storing the audio on the VS1880...I therefore assume you can't export from there using this software?...please forgive my ignorance of the software if that's the case...what is the best way of using it to master the audio, or transfer the audio from the VS1880...I'm used to using Nuendo 4. It seems that this is a pretty expensive front end controller then? That's a lot of money for a bigger volume control! What I'd like to be able to do is to send the wavs out of the machine to export them into a more user friendly programme (like Nuendo for example) With regard to recording audio using VS Pro Score I'm not sure there is any value to doing it if I can't export the whole mix, ie MIDI, VS audio AND recorded audio on the computer. How would that work? I mean, how could I export a MASTER stereo file using this software? Thanks again for your reply.

Getting the audio out of your VS workstation into a computer is either a case of taking a stereo pair out into the device you want to record to (computer soundcard or external recorder) and recording in realtime, or using a transfer routine to convert to .wav format. If you want to know about the .wav conversion process, go to the VS Planet forums and do a search. I think Funkybeat has covered this in the 1680 / 1880 forum there, as well as maybe in the Reaper forum.

That isn't really what VS Pro software is for. But before you dismiss it as being unsuited to your needs, take a look at the video dems that Funkybeat has posted on this forum. Once you've seen how it can be used, you may find that this is something you're interested in working with.

I would just second Rich's comment. I know FunkyBeat has a detailed set of instructions posted on VS Planet as to how one can export data in .wav format. I've never tried it, but I'm about to. It seems I'm asked every week for my wav files!!
